Calcium chloride is used in canned vegetables as a firming agent, to firm soybean curds into tofu, and to manufacture a caviar alternative out of vegetable or fruit liquids. As an electrolyte, it's widely found in sports drinks and other beverages, including bottled water. This is very effective and economical to use. Calcium chloride is a calcium-chlorine ionic molecule. It is deliquescent and very soluble in water. It's a solid salt that behaves like a conventional ionic halide at ambient temperature.
